Displacement activity

I’ve just seen the latest issue of the National Trust magazine – at least I think that’s what it was. Considering the articles in it, it could easily have been Women’s Weekly.

It’s all artsy-crafty, this will help your mental health, bake a nice cake. An article loosely about interior design, I suppose, called ‘rooms’, morphed into yet another item on their obsession with the Bloomsbury group. There was next to nothing on architecture or preservation of heritage which is what I thought they were meant to be about. The National Trust is not meant to be competing for the Bake Off final.

What a refreshing difference to look at my Historic Houses magazine. They obviously care about serious architecture and history, and not a pancake recipe in sight. Well done them. It may be a long time ago, but I seem to remember the National Trust was once like this.
